I am still tired. I'm still burnt out. I'm showing up the best I can even when I don't feel like it. And this week God's been reminding me that sometimes the most obedient thing that I can do is rest. Have you ever felt guilty for resting? Like you're letting people down, letting your business down, letting God down because you're not doing your business or just losing momentum or everything will fall apart if you slow down. If that's you, then this episode is definitely for you because today we're talking about what to do when rest feels wrong, but it's exactly what you need. So if you're ready, let's do a quick little prayer here. Lord, thank you for being our rest and our refuge. Thank you for reminding us that our worth isn't tied to our productivity. Father, teach us to rest in your presence and to trust that you are working even when we're not. Father, quiet the guilt, quiet that noise, and fill our spirit with peace today. In Jesus' name. Amen. If you are anything like me, you know rest does not feel natural when you are someone who is just so used to pushing and hustling and just in that go, go, go mentality. You're so used to being busy and always doing something. For so many of us, especially as entrepreneurs, especially as moms, as women who wear a thousand hats, it feels like if we stop, everything is going to fall apart. But that is the lie the enemy loves to whisper to us because if he can keep you running, he can keep you from hearing. He can keep you from listening to what God is trying to tell you because you're so busy running around with those thoughts that you just you can't slow down to hear. And I've learned that the difference between striving and surrendering is trust. Striving says it's up to me. I can do it. I got it. Let me just get it done. And surrendering says, I can be still. He withdrew to quiet places. He took time away from the crowd, away from the noise, away from work. And if the son of God needed to rest, what makes us think we can do we can do it without resting? We need rest too. Rest is obedience. Rest isn't being lazy, it's obedience. It's saying, God, I trust you to sustain what you've called me to do, and I am okay to be still and to rest. Sometimes we're confusing that busyness with being faithful. But we think being busy means being productive, but that's I don't think that's God's impression. God's impressed by motion, he's impressed by obedience. You move when he tells you to move, not because you feel like you have to be moving and that you're being faithful by moving. He will tell you when to move, and then you can move and be obedient. But sometimes God is telling us to rest, and that is one of the most faith-filled things you can do. Because it means you're taking taking your hands off the wheel and saying, Lord, you can drive this part. Jesus, take the wheel. Think about it like this you cannot pour from an empty cup, and you can't drive on those fumes forever. Eventually, you have to pull over and refuel. You're going to run out of gas. You can't just keep driving. You will stop running. And our bodies are the same thing. You need to refuel yourself. Your spirit needs refueling. And when that rest feels wrong, when you've spent your entire life hustling, it can feel uncomfortable, it can feel like you're being lazy, but the world glorifies that hustle. Whereas the kingdom honors that stillness. It says be still in the Bible. It says be still for a reason. And sometimes the hardest part of rest isn't putting the work down. It's quieting that guilt when we're putting the work down. It's that voice that says you're falling behind. You should be doing more. Why are you stopping? You need to get this done. If you don't do this, then it's not going to get done. But here's the truth: rest is faith in motion. It's saying, I don't have to make it happen. I just have to let God move. And He will move. He will move. I took an entire year sabbatical from my business. And that was the most incredible year that I had after I started. That was my most successful year after I was faithful and I took that year off to just learn where God wanted to be in my business. And I was not where He wanted me to be. And it was so, so hard to step back. I did not want to do it. And I was mad at God. I'm like, how dare you make me step back from my business when this is about to be my most successful month I've ever had? Like, what I don't understand. Why are you making me quit? Well, he wasn't making me quit. He was making me redirect where I was in my business to where he wanted me to be, because it's so easy for us to go the way that we want to go and not the way that God is choosing for us. Especially when we're surrounded by social media and all the different things around us, it's so easy to get distracted, you know, shiny object syndrome. Ooh, that's really cool, and go to the next best thing. But it's really important that we take that rest and we step, step down at times. And again, rest doesn't always mean doing nothing. Sometimes it does. With me, it was literally doing nothing. I quit my business for a full year because God's like, I need you to step away. So eventually I was obedient. But sometimes simply shifting, even just how you breathe, how you move, how you connect with God, and just learning to rest within that faith. It can look like 10 minutes of prayer, worship, or journaling can refill that soul. Not just, you know, creating a Sabbath moment, but a Sabbath day where you have that day to yourself. Or not sorry, that day, but those moments. So find those moments of peace within yourself that you can rest in God. Replace those hustling thoughts with the truth. So when God says you're behind, or sorry, not when God says, Oh my goodness, have I mentioned I'm still a little tired and not with it? When your brain says you're behind, not God, when your brain, when your brain says you're behind, speak the scripture. Speak scripture. Psalm 46, 10 says, be still and know that I am God. Write that down somewhere and look at it. Give it as to as a reminder to yourself. Sometimes rest looks different in each season. Sometimes rest is napping. Sometimes rest is going for a walk with worship music. Sometimes it's simply sitting in silence and just letting your thoughts settle and just let the Holy Spirit speak to you. And you need to remember to protect that peace. Don't fill every quiet space with noise or scrolling. Let that silence stretch long enough for God to speak to you. And when you are silent, he will speak to you because you have no distractions. And God does some of his deepest work in our stillness. So when we rest, he restores. When we pause, he gives us clarity. When we stop striving and hustling, he can finally step in and do his best work. Rest isn't wasted. It is holy time. And you're not losing momentum. You're letting God move. And I truly, truly believe that sometimes the next level of your business, your faith, your purpose is simply waiting for you on the other side of a nap, a walk, or a quiet moment of prayer. If you keep pushing when you're not in that moment, in the right moment, in the right m mindset, or just there's so many distractions around you, you're forcing something that's not meant to be forced. Your business should flow naturally because it's God's business too. It shouldn't, it shouldn't be hard. It shouldn't be rushed. It shouldn't be like I want to say discombobulated, but I don't think that's the word I'm looking for. But it shouldn't feel like something isn't right. It should just feel right. It should feel natural. It should flow. And if it's not, and you're just so tired right now, and you're in a space where it just showing up feels hard. Hear me out when I say this. Again, you're not falling behind. You're just being refined. You're not being lazy. You're just learning to lean in. And the same God who gave you the vision is also going to sustain you while you rest. Your business isn't going anywhere. Your customers aren't going anywhere. Your membership isn't going anywhere. Your podcast isn't going anywhere. Whatever it is, it's not going anywhere. God is telling you to rest. If He's telling you to rest, then listen.
